BrowsingHistoryView

What BrowsingHistoryView does

Using this tool

BrowsingHistoryView supports browser forensics. In this guide, you will use it to filter a supplied profile for a relevant visit sequence. Follow the steps below and keep the output with your notes.

Tool guide at a glance

Investigation task

Filter a supplied profile for a relevant visit sequence.

Starting material

A copied training browser profile or supplied browser artefact set.

What to record

A browser observation linked to profile, source artefact, time context, and corroborating evidence.

Evidence and safety

Use copied profiles. Do not open recovered links or downloads on the analyst workstation. Record the input identifier, tool version, relevant commands or settings, time and time zone, output location, and any errors or limitations as you work.

How the labs complement this guide

The Interactive Lab uses example records to practise investigation decisions. It does not run the installed tool or establish how that version behaves. The Full Lab uses your own training environment and evidence. Obtain or create the required input before starting; a case name in an exercise is not a download.

Accessing BrowsingHistoryView in SUSA

BrowsingHistoryView is a Windows utility that collects and displays web browsing history from multiple browsers in one place.

Use copied profiles and record the selected browsers, source paths, date range and time zone setting. Combined history is useful for correlation, but redirects, synchronisation and background requests mean a URL record is not proof of deliberate user intent.

Open the BrowsingHistoryView download page and download the application.

Extract the ZIP archive into C:\Tools\BrowsingHistoryView, then open the application.

Choose the required visit date/time range and web browsers. For this setup check, retain the default options and click OK.

This will load browsing history from selected web browsers.
